Cork leads way with refugee work agency

The wealth of experience and talent in the refugee and asylum-seeker community has been recognised by an innovative venture in Cork.

Led by Roos Demol, a Flemish woman who has lived in the country for 20 years, a network has been set up for employers to find skills among people who have been through the Direct Provision system.

Restricted now because of Covid, the agency lists the skills and qualifications of people in the system who are looking for, and legally able to, work. It is called Recruit Refugees.

Demol says: “There is so much talent wasting away because of ignorance. So far we have 100 people signed up, and 70% of those people have third level qualifications.”
