A bear left her house by the front door. She walked 1km south, then 1km east, then 1km north and found herself back at her front door.

    What colour was the bear?

    The first solution is:

If the bear’s house is at the north pole then she would be able to do this. And polar bears are white so she was white.

    On the other paw.

She could have started a distance of 1000 + (1000/2 pi) meters north of the south pole.

Now, she can walk 1000 m south, walk the circumference of the circle which is 1000 m which leaves her back in the same place. Then turn north and walk 1000 m home.

Of course polar bears don’t live in Antartica, it’s way too cold for them, so we can’t tell what colour she is!
